With a winter storm warning in effect, at least eight school districts in Rock and Walworth counties on Thursday canceled school for Friday ahead of a predicted snowstorm.
In a statement Thursday afternoon, the Janesville School District announced it will close schools, clubs and athletic programs Friday. That includes early-childhood and P4J programs at district schools. For P4J programs at community site locations, families should contact site directors for cancellation and closing information.
Other districts that are canceling school and activities include Milton, Whitewater Unified, Edgerton, Evansville, Beloit Turner, Beloit, Clinton Community, Elkhorn Area, Delavan-Darien and Brodhead.
Edgerton Superintendent Dennis Pauli released a statement late Thursday urging people to stay off campus for the duration of the storm, which is expected to last from the early-morning hours of Friday until late Saturday night.
“The entire campus will be closed on Saturday for our crews to plow all parking lots and clean all walkways. There will be no use of any of our facilities on Saturday, January 13,” Pauli said.
This storm comes days after another winter storm in which upwards of 10 inches were forecasted, but most spots in Rock and Walworth counties received 2-4 inches with higher totals to the north and west. In Janesville, 7-11 inches are expected in the new storm.
The new storm is expected to be accompanied by 35 mph wind gusts and blowing snow.
Update at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11: The Beloit School District was added to this list of cancellations following an announcement by the district just before 6 p.m.
